چکیده

The calculation of Bethe logarithm for the ground state of the lithium atom is presented. The Bethe logarithm is the main QED effect coming from the electron self-interaction, which has not been obtained yet. Both results for the infinite nuclear mass, ln k055.178 17(3), and the mass polarization correction, Dln k0 50.114(3), significantly improve the hitherto theoretical values for the lithium ground-state energy. They allow from one side to test the theory against precise measurements of transition frequencies and from the other side, to improve the accuracy of determination of the difference in the square of nuclear charge radii from the isotope-shift measurements. The applied calculational method is based on the well adapted explicitly correlated Gaussian basis set and can be extended to other few-electron atoms and molecules.

Exponentially correlated Gaussian functions in variational calculations. Momentum space properties of the ground state helium dimer

Microhartree accuracy wave functions composed of exponentially correlated Gaussians were transformed in closed form to momentum space representation and applied to compute various isotropic momentum space properties of helium dimer in the ground state. The set of properties includes electron momentum density distribution, expectation values of powers of the electronic momentum operator, and the...

Relativistic and QED corrections for the beryllium atom.

Complete relativistic and quantum electrodynamics corrections of order alpha(2) Ry and alpha(3) Ry are calculated for the ground state of the beryllium atom and its positive ion. A basis set of correlated Gaussian functions is used, with exponents optimized against nonrelativistic binding energies. The results for Bethe logarithms ln(k(0)(Be)=5.750 34(3) and ln(k(0)(Be+)=5.751 67(3) demonstrate...

Calculation of Hydrogenic Bethe Logarithms for Rydberg States

We describe the calculation of hydrogenic (one-loop) Bethe logarithms for all states with principal quantum numbers n ≤ 200. While, in principle, the calculation of the Bethe logarithm is a rather easy computational problem involving only the nonrelativistic (Schrödinger) theory of the hydrogen atom, certain calculational difficulties affect highly excited states, and in particular states for w...

THE SPINLESS SALPETER EQUATION AND MESON DYNAMICS

Applying the variational method, the spinless reduced Bethe-Salpeter (RBS) equation is solved for the mesonic systems, and the mass spectra are obtained. The method is applied to the Hamiltonian with the Gaussian and hydrogen-type trial wave functions, and different potential models are examined. The results for the different potentials are in challenge in light mesons, while they are consisten...

Two–Loop Bethe Logarithms for Higher Excited S Levels

Processes mediated by two virtual low-energy photons contribute quite significantly to the energy of hydrogenic S states. The corresponding level shift is of the order of (α/π) (Zα)6me c and may be ascribed to a two-loop generalization of the Bethe logarithm. For 1S and 2S states, the correction has recently been evaluated by Pachucki and Jentschura [Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 113005 (2003)]. Here, w...
